At the age of 48, Ms Wang Li Fang, residing in a remote village in Jiang County, Yunnan province, China, successfully gave birth to a healthy baby with the support of Amity Foundation’s “Sprout on Earth” program. Despite her advanced maternal age, she received regular prenatal checkups, nutritional supplements, and maternity care kits, all provided free of charge. In contrast, during her previous two pregnancies, she had minimal access to prenatal care due to financial constraints.
Miss Wang is one of 1.6 million rural women across 24 counties in eight provinces in China who have benefited from this program since its inception in 2019. In some program areas, prenatal checkup coverage has increased by 21 percentage points, and the anemia rate has reduced by 2.5%.
Our program implements China’s 45-year national health plan through a three-tiered county, town, and village healthcare system for maternal and child health,aligned with the World Health Organization’s “Health for All” strategy and addressing Sustainable Development Goal 3 targets.
This initiative exemplifies promoting women’s rights and development through advancing their right to health. Let’s work together to build a world where every pregnancy is a safe journey and every mother is a beacon of sustainable development.
