39th Meeting 58th Session of Human Rights Council UN Web TV
– General debate under agenda item 4 (Cont’d)
Stichting Global Human Rights Defence, Ms. Greta Charlotte Zehrer
发言内容:
Thank you, Mr. Vice President.
Global human rights defense remains gravely concerned about the deteriorating human rights situation in Tibet. The Chinese government continues to impose severe restrictions on fundamental freedoms, including freedom of expression, religion, and assembly.
Reports indicate ongoing arbitrary detentions and forced disappearances and the criminalization of peaceful advocacy for Tibetan identity and culture. The intensified crackdown on Tibetan Buddhist institutions, the forced assimilation of Tibetan children through state-run schools, and the systematic suppression of the Tibetan language further undermine cultural and religious rights. Additionally, extensive surveillance, including the use of AI, restricts all aspects of daily life and silences dissent.
We are also deeply troubled by the continued targeting of Tibetan human rights defenders and the expansion of repressive policies that restrict movement and independent reporting. The environmental exploitation of the Tibetan plateau carried out without local consultation poses a direct threat to both Tibetan livelihoods and the region’s ecological stability.
Global human rights defense therefore strongly urges for an end to the repressions in Tibet and for the respect of international human rights obligations, as well as unfettered access for independent observers to the region.
The international community must not remain silent in the face of these ongoing violations and must support efforts to ensure accountability. Thank you.
