Thank you, Mr. President.
Mr. High Commissioner, we appreciate your efforts to call attention to human rights violations and abuses around the world.
In Sudan, we condemn war crimes, crimes against humanity, and ethnic cleansing carried out in the current war; we are gravely concerned about the threat of further mass atrocities reminiscent of the Darfur genocide.
We condemn the DPRK’s egregious human rights record.
We condemn ongoing atrocities in Xinjiang, human rights abuses in Tibet, democratic backsliding in Hong Kong, and transnational repression committed by the PRC.
We remain deeply concerned by the dire human rights situation in Belarus, where over 1,400 political prisoners remain unjustly detained.
In Russia, we are disturbed by the Kremlin’s intensifying crackdown on dissenting voices, as well as Russia’s abuses in its war of aggression in Ukraine.
In Syria and Iran, we condemn the systemic use of executions following unjust detentions, torture, and lack of respect for fair trial guarantees.
We recognize Israel’s obligation to defend itself, but we have seen far too many civilians killed in the conflict in Gaza and reiterate that they must be protected.
In Afghanistan, we continue to press the Taliban to reverse draconian edicts systemically targeting women and girls.
We remain seriously concerned about continued detention of political prisoners in Cuba, Nicaragua, and Venezuela.
I thank you.
