President,
Norway welcomes the steps taken by Malta to ratify the Optional Protocol to the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women.
Norway recommends that Malta:
1. Take all necessary steps to guarantee the right to freedom of expression and the safety of journalists.
2. Improve the process of issuing and reviewing detention orders and ensure that migrants and refugees rescued at sea are promptly disembarked with full respect for their human rights.
3. Ensures women and girls’ sexual and reproductive health and rights, especially access to safe abortion including revision of the restrictive legislation on abortion.
4. Continue taking necessary measures to end gender-based discrimination in the workforce, especially wage disparities.
