Mr President,
Sierra Leone extends a warm welcome to H.E Mr. Chen Xu, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of China to the UN and other International Organisations at Geneva and the distinguished Chinese delegation and thanks them for the presentation of its national report.
My delegation acknowledges and commends China for its extraordinary achievement in eradicating poverty for its 1.4 billion citizens. China’s establishment of the world’s largest education, social security and health care systems is duly noted.
In the spirit of constructive engagement, we offer the following recommendations:
- Continue to formulate robust legal safeguards for human rights.
- Continue efforts to promote shared prosperity for the Chinese people, ensuring the protection of their economic, social and cultural rights.
- Build on achievements in poverty alleviation, rural revitalisation, and prioritise employment opportunities.
Sierra Leone wishes China success in this fourth review cycle.
