We remain deeply concerned about widespread severe restrictions on fundamental freedoms, shrinking civic space, and reprisals against civil society in China. In Xinjiang and Tibet, serious abuses persist, such as arbitrary detentions, political re-education camps, forced labour, and limits on religious and cultural rights. In Hong Kong, the repressive use of the National Security Law and sweeping electoral changes continue to undermine autonomy, the rule of law, and democratic principles. We call for the immediate release of all detained human rights defenders, among others Gao Zhisheng, Zhang Zhan, Ilham Tohti or Jimmy Lai, and urge China to respect its national and international obligations.
