Thank you, Mr. President.
The Chinese government’s crackdown on Christianity has intensified, according to the Pew Research Centre.
The percentage of adults identifying as Christian in China dropped from 2% in 2018 to 1% in 2021, largely due to the government’s sinicization campaign.
The Chinese Communist Party deployes surveillance, facial recognition and Social credit penalties to the control of churches. Bibles are censored, children are banned from religious institutions, and the CCP’s even rewriting the Bible to meet with the communist ideology.
The case of XX (not clear )Church in Jilin highlights the severity of these measures, with heavy fines and constant harassment aimed to dumping the church.
Unregistered churches are particularly targeted, and the authorities exploit tightening practice to fabricate fraud charges against House church leaders.
Catholics are viewed with suspicion discriminated facing restrictions in military, party and government laws.
In Henan, religious. Religious individuals must register with the smart religion app, enabling further state surveillance.
Mr. president, it seems nationwide China fears religions.
We urge this council to recommend China to stop suppressing religious freedom.
