Vice president,
The Chinese Association for International Understanding highly appreciate the Special Rapporteur‘s attention to focus on fukushima nuclear accident in Japan.
On August 24th,despite of the strong doubts and opposition of the international community,the Japanese government unilaterally started to discharge nuclear contaminated nulear water into the ocean.
At present the total amount of nuclear contaminated water had reached 1.3 million tons. And even after the contamination treatment.It still contains more than 60 radio nuclear. Japan’s nuclear contaminated water discharge will continue for at least 30 years,and its radioactive material will spread across most of the pacific in 57 days.It will spread to all over the ocean in 10 years.
UN Human Rights Council resolution 48/13 recognizes that the right to clean,healthy and sustainable environment is a fundamental human right.Japan’s discharge of nuclear contaminated water seriously infringes on the rights of peoples to health development and the environment.
We call on the UN Human Rights Council and the international community to urge the Japanese government to fulfil its moral responsibility and obligations under international law.Correct is wrong doing and immediately stop the release of nuclear contaminated water into the ocean.
