Thank you, Mr. President.
Trinidad and Tobago thanks the Government of China for its comprehensive report and engagement in this UPR process.
We take note of the progress made since its last review such as the strengthening of its human rights legislation through the enactment of new laws and amendment of existing ones. The amendment of laws relating to the protection of women’s rights and the protection of minors is particularly noted.
Having regard to the challenges outlined in its report, and in a constructive spirit, Trinidad and Tobago recommends that China:
- Continues its efforts to address the development and income disparities between urban and rural areas; and
- Strengthens efforts to tackle environmental challenges.
We wish the Delegation of China a productive review.
