Mr. President,
South Africa welcomes the distinguished delegation of China to this UPR Session and wishes the country a successful review.
We commend the strides made by China in bolstering the provision of education, social security and healthcare for all, together with those activities undertaken that seek to address the challenge of absolute poverty. These efforts have no doubt gone a long way to improve the quality of the lives of the Chinese people.
South Africa wishes to make the following recommendations:
- Strengthen the enforcement of the 2016 Anti-Domestic Violence Law;
- Augment the provision of reproductive health services; and
- Ensure victims of hate crimes and hate speech receive the requisite support to facilitate reporting and receive effective remedies.
