Mr. Vice President, since our debate in December, we have witnessed no improvements of the human rights situation in China. We condemn continuing violations of civil and political rights, including in the Xinjiang Autonomous Region, the Tibet Autonomous Region and the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.
We call on China to respect freedom of religion and belief. Religious communities must be allowed to choose their leaders without interference. We arealso concerned about the well-being of 40 Uyghurs who were refueled from Thailand to China last month.
We call on China to respect and protect their rights. Transnational repression violates the human rights of individuals and national sovereignty and must stop.
