发言内容:
Thank you, Mr.Vice President.
The United States condemns enforced disappearances. They are a violation of human rights and fundamental freedoms, instrumentalized to spread fear and stifle dissent.
We call on the PRC, DPRK, Syria, Iran, and Russia to immediately stop committing enforced disappearances and to release all disappeared persons.
In the People’s Republic of China, human rights defenders, lawyers, journalists, members of ethnic and religious minority groups, and others have been forcibly disappeared. The PRC government is not content to just act within its borders; it also abducts individuals from abroad through acts of transnational repression.
Meanwhile, an unknown number of North Koreans have been forcibly disappeared inside the DPRK. The regime also carries out international abductions, including of foreign nationals, whose whereabouts remain unknown.
In Syria, over 157,000 people remain missing, with the Syrian government responsible for the vast majority. The United States calls on the government of Syria and all parties to immediately release disappeared and unjustly detained persons.
Distinguished members of the Working Group, what specific actions can Member States take to ensure transparent, independent investigations are conducted and that they lead to accountability?
I thank you.
