发言内容:
Thank you, Madam Vice President.
We support the conclusion of the Working Group in May that Russia’s detention of Evan Gershkovich was arbitrary. We commend those who worked so hard for his release and that of more than a dozen individuals unjustly detained by Russia, including Alsu Kurmasheva and Vladimir Kara Murza. We continue to call for the release of hundreds more political prisoners that remain unjustly detained across Russia.
We are outraged that over 157,000 people in Syria remain unjustly detained or missing and we call on the regime and all parties to immediately release these persons or provide updates on their whereabouts.
We are troubled by the DPRK’s prolonged arbitrary detention of South Koreans, including Kim Kuk-gi. September 20th will mark the 4000th day of detention for missionary Kim Jung-wook.
We condemn Iran’s use of torture, forced confessions, sham trials, and the death penalty to suppress dissidents, and the arbitrary and unjust detention of other states’ nationals.
We call for the immediate release of Jimmy Lai, who was unjustly detained under Hong Kong’s National Security Law.
We remain deeply concerned about the arbitrary detentions of Uyghurs, including retired doctor Gulshan Abbas and businessman Ekpar Asat, and urge the PRC to release them immediately.
What can be done to encourage these states and others that commit arbitrary detention, including Saudi Arabia, Myanmar, Ethiopia, and Türkiye, to end these practices.
I thank you.
