发言人:United States of America, Ms. Michèle Taylor
Thank you, Mr. President.
We are disappointed that the PRC has refused to take action amid consistent calls from the international community to respect human rights and fundamental freedoms, and has rejected numerous constructive recommendations made through the UPR.
The United States condemns the human rights abuses in Tibet, Inner Mongolia, and across China; ongoing genocide and crimes against humanity in Xinjiang; and the erosion of respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms in Hong Kong. China’s abuses constitute a rejection of UN assessments and recommendations and violate or undermine international commitments and legal obligations.
The PRC continues to arbitrarily detain individuals in Xinjiang, Tibet, Hong Kong, and elsewhere. Some of these individuals were recommended for release by the UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention and require urgent medical care. We demand the PRC immediately and unconditionally release all those arbitrarily detained.
We strongly oppose efforts to intimidate and silence individuals who seek safe haven outside of China, including in the United States, and remain deeply concerned by the PRC’s acts of transnational repression to harass, surveil, and threaten individuals; these actions are a threat to sovereignty and to the enjoyment of human rights.
I thank you.
